Reflections on Surah Qiyamah (75)

The injustice in this world is balanced with the justice of after life 2- رب is an absolute authority.… Continue reading Reflections on Surah Qiyamah (75)

Reflections on Surah Ar Rahman

الرَّحْمَٰنُ - 55:1 The Most Merciful Allah chose to introduce Himself as Ar Rahman in this Surah, instead of Allah. This shows that Allah wanted to highlight this attribute to us. What is Ar Rahman? We commonly translate Rahm as mercy, and mercy is usually understood as sparing someone from punishment. We ask for mercy… Continue reading Reflections on Surah Ar Rahman

Light upon Light – Ayah tul Noor (24:35)

Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth. The example of His light is like a niche within which is a lamp, the lamp is within glass, the glass as if it were a pearly [white] star lit from [the oil of] a blessed olive tree, neither of the east nor of the west, whose oil would almost glow even if untouched by fire. Light upon light. Allah guides to His light whom He wills. And Allah presents examples for the people, and Allah is Knowing of all things. (24:35)
